Behold before you, this magnificent specimen
Flawless in my design, at my performance best
The desire of all women, the envy of all men
Gaze at my image, marvel at my physique
Catch me in my prime, witness me at my peak
A perfect model of masculinity
I’m not like you- I’m not weak
Have strict disipline, a structured routine
Put in all the time and effort for all I’ve achieved
Can’t make a statement with subtlety
Want results you can feel, change you can see
Eliminated every trace of who I used to be
No layers to reveal or hidden depth to reach
All on the surface, no surprises underneath
One look and you'll learn all you need to know about me
Want to make my presence known, announce when I’ve arrived
and if you see me coming, you’d best step aside
Don’t have to be polite, no need to be kind
With this imposing figure, the power is all mine
Going to assert my dominance
by putting up my best defence
to this threat to my confidence
with your glaring indifference
And if I’m recognized, from former lives I can’t recall
Don’t want to reminisce, compare how far we’ve climbed or fallen
I’ve shaped the past to better suit this new identity
Rewrote all the failures as victories
This is the image I’ve been sold
This is the truth that I’ve been told
This is the example I’ve been shown
Passed on to me and down it goes

A fantastic album. I can see why they didn't continue under the name The Evens, as it's a different sound with the bass added. Coriky is the Evens + Joe Lally from Fugazi on bass. If you can imagine The Evens with a slightly more funky, aggressive sound like Fugazi... that's what you get! And there's no way that can ever go wrong. What a great debut album!! smiledozer

This would have been right at home coming out on Touch & Go in 1994. A great sound I don't hear much anymore: great rhythm section, some angular guitar signatures, nice harmonies. I dig it. PS - three tracks at precisely 3:57 in length. That has to have been purposeful. cavestrummer

Got this record as a birthday gift from a bandmate and it coincided with the loss of my grandmother and a painful trip east to see to final arrangements. It provided both company and consolation during that difficult journey and thematically, is spot-on for this season of life. Can’t say enough good things about these guys. Creep Church
